Why Multi-Factor Authentication Matters

Multi-Factor Authentication, or MFA, adds an extra layer of protection to your account. Instead of relying only on a password, MFA requires two things:

  • Something you know, such as your password
  • Something you have, such as a phone notification or authentication code

Most security breaches happen because someone guessed or stole a password. With MFA, even if your password is leaked, the attacker still cannot access your account without the second factor.

What MFA Helps Prevent

  • Email account takeovers
  • Fake invoices and payment fraud
  • Leaks of sensitive documents and client data
  • Costly downtime and reputation damage

How Hard Is MFA to Use?

After setup, MFA usually means tapping Approve on your phone. It typically takes only a few seconds.

How to Set Up MFA for Office 365

  1. Go to portal.office.com and sign in with your email and password.
  2. When prompted, choose your preferred MFA method. We recommend the Microsoft Authenticator app.
  3. Download Microsoft Authenticator from the App Store or Google Play.
  4. Open the app, tap +, and add your account.
  5. Scan the QR code shown on your screen.
  6. Confirm that everything works by signing in again.

What If I Lose My Phone?

We help set up backup methods so you are not locked out of your account if your phone is lost, replaced, or unavailable.
